Evaluation & Critique
Comprehensive Fiction evaluations consist of reading and assessing your work and, upon completion, providing a summary outlining plot, dialogue, characterization, style, presentation, setting, structure, and theme. The summary identifies the strengths and challenges of the manuscript, and details specific steps toward revisions.
Non-Fiction assessments will include the summary, with a focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the work, including style and content.
Proofreading
Proofreading consists of identifying errors in spelling, typos, punctuation and missing text. Proofing further includes line-by-line comparison with an original layout to ensure detection and correction of all errors. This process includes one revision, a wrap-up Q&A session, and access for questions on the manuscript that arise after delivery of the finished product.
Content Editing
From first draft to final draft, we work together to develop continuity of plot, dialogue, characterization, style, presentation, setting, structure, and theme using both structural and stylistic editing. The structural edit ensures you work has a logical organization, rhythm and flow with compelling plot development. The stylistic edit clarifies your meaning, without jeopardizing your voice, by omitting redundancy and unnecessary word usage, and analyzing your placement of chapter and scene breaks.
The cost for editing is dependent on the degree of editing required. For those with well-written material in need of minimal punctuation, spelling and grammar corrections, the Moderate Edit Package is sufficient. Work requiring major changes in grammar, punctuation, spelling, general flow, deletion of repetitious and redundant words, clarity, rewriting, transposition of text, etc would be better suited for the Heavy Edit Package. Both packages include a wrap-up Q&A session, and access for questions on the manuscript that arise after delivery of the finished product. Content Editing does not include fact checking. I will provide a complimentary, one chapter, mini-assessment to determine your specific editing needs.
Copyediting
Once you have a fully revised and polished manuscript you are ready for the copyediting stage. At this point I will perform a line-by-line check of the manuscript for standardized grammar, spelling, format, punctuation and other mechanics of style. This process includes one revision, a wrap-up Q&A session, and access for questions on the manuscript that arise after delivery of the finished product.
All editing services are completed using Microsoft Office or Open Office Track Changes programs.
