Join us this Friday February 10th, from 5:30-9:00 pm for a creative and inspiring evening of poetry, performances and authors’ readings in celebration of Black History Month. Enjoy appetizers, desserts and Durham’s finest selection of teas at Hy-Tea, Pickering’s premier Teahouse and Restaurant by the Lake.
We’re raising awareness about the growing risk of HIV infection for women in Durham Region. Studies indicate that African, Caribbean and Black people—and women in particular—are at a higher risk for HIV infection.
Hy Tea and Devorah Garland, Women & HIV/AIDS Community Development Coordinator at ACDR, are holding this event to spotlight both populations (visit ACDR if you want to know more). Hy-Tea is donating 50% of proceeds to the AIDS Committee of Durham Region.
Hy-Tea is located at 44-1295 Wharf St. (use Liverpool St. Entrance) in Pickering, right by Lake Ontario. We`re located on the west side, 2 doors from the end of the block.
If you’d like to do a reading, something you wrote or you just find inspiring, please contact Devorah at firstname.lastname@example.org. She is looking for more readers to fill out the evening’s exciting, inspiring program. Come read, sing a song or do some sketching/painting…let’s be creative together. Young performers welcome!
